How Average Time to Get Over a Breakup Differs

For many people, the average time to get over a break up is around a year. Obviously, this could be much longer for some people.

If your ex was dumped by you are still in love with them, then the average time to get over a break up could be as long as four years.

Some relationships can actually last that long between the split and the reconciliation!

However, if you have found out that your ex is not truly interested in getting back together with you, then your average time to get over a break up could be as short as a few weeks.

What can make your average time to get over a break up longer or shorter? There are several reasons why this average time can be longer or shorter than expected.

The first reason is because you may have been too emotionally invested in the relationship to realize that it was slipping away.

When a couple split up, the emotional connection that each person had with the other is usually very strong.

So when the relationship ended, you could not fathom the degree of pain that you were feeling.

You did everything you could think of to save the relationship and yet it all failed. This could make you feel like giving up completely.

Or you may have been so consumed with your own feelings that you did not see what was really wrong with the other person.

This makes you look at the person in a different way and perhaps cause you to reconsider your previous decision to leave.

Another reason your average time to get over a break up can be much shorter than expected, is that you and your ex may have been trying to make a big life changing change at the same time.

For example, if you are a career woman and you have just broken up with your boyfriend, you may feel like changing your career path in order to attract a man.

You want to do this because you believe you need to become a success in order to move up in your career.

This is fine; however, you will find that your attempts to attract the right man will be met with rejection all the time.

If you have children, you may be thinking of starting a family. You and your ex-boyfriend are no longer together and there has probably been nothing else on your mind besides wanting to get back together.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to know whether or not your efforts to attract a new mate will work.

If you were hoping for a fresh start, how is it possible to get over a break up while your new family is waiting for you? If this has been going on for a long time, you may feel like giving up.

There is no shame in giving up if it has been a really hard battle to win back your love.

No matter what your reason for wanting to get over a break up, you should keep a positive attitude.

You may be able to wait out the break up or you may lose interest and decide it was not worth it.

If you are having trouble keeping a positive attitude, it is time to take a look at the reasons why you are doing this.

Maybe you were hoping that things would change and that things would end soon. Maybe you have lost sight of the goals that you originally set out for yourself.

No matter what the reason may be, you can do something about it if you are determined enough.

Another thing that may help you move forward is to find other people who are dealing with a break up.

Chances are that you are doing everything you can in hopes that you will be able to get over a break up faster.

You may even want to join a support group for people who are going through the same thing you are.

The more people you know and the more the support, the better off you will be in getting over a break up.

It is also possible that you just need to cool off and think about things for a while.

If you are still having a hard time moving on after you have been hurt by another person, chances are you are still hurting yourself.

It is possible that you will be able to move on faster if you give some space and time. Take a break, get some perspective, and think about things for a few days.

If you allow yourself to be away from the situation, it may be possible to speed up the process of healing. So if you are dealing with a break up, remember that you can get over it!
